A better way of protecting the surface of newly acquired dining tables is to purchase a protective cover. These covers vary immensely in many ways, from color, size, texture and composition. Colors can be chosen to match the original color of the table, to suit the room décor, or to go with a particular tablecloth you may prefer. When it comes to size, there are some choices to make depending on how much of the table you want to cover. A full cover can drape down over the sides of one, thereby protecting the edges of the wood, and even some the exposed portions of the legs, depending on the style of the table.
